Pressing & Metal forming: As well as the pressing of panels processes such as; destacking,washing,centering are also automated. In recent years there has been a move to increased panel size to simplify the body assembly. Variable force control is being used to improve panel qualit. Facilites such as quick die change allow for flexible multiple model production.

Body Assembly: Adaptive closed loop welding technology allows welds to be monitored as they are applied. Networked PLCs and HMIs provide control of high volume production lines. Geometric robot grippers and pallet based systems are being used for multiple model production lines.

Riveting/Studing/Sealer/Folding/Hemming/Vision Systems: With the move by companies such as AUDI and Jaguar to aluminium, riveting is being used for body assembly. The PLC controllers have to interface to 3rd party systems for studing, sealing, vision etc.

Trim & Final Assembly : Transport system moves the painted bodies so that trim,seats,glass and electrics can be installed in the finished vehicle. Automation is used for; transport system, Vin marking, wheel balancing and glazing. There is still a large workforce in most trim shops and automation is gradually being introduced.
